Project Manager

If this sounds like the place where you would like to grow your career, we are currently seeking a Project Manager to join our head office.  Working collaboratively with team members, the Project Manager will review local market conditions, oversee procurement of sub-contractors, write detail scopes, and draft contracts.  In collaboration with site superintendents, the Project Manager will also develop project schedules and ensure resources are in place as dictated by established project schedules and budgets; as well as assisting with mentoring and training personnel to support the successful growth of WestUrban Developments Ltd.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruit potential consultants, engineers, and sub-contractors in various markets where development sites are located;
  • Develop and propose development and construction budgets;
  • Tender, negotiate, and secure sub-contracts within project timelines and budgets;
  • Provide technical information to employees and subcontractors ensuring projects are delivered in scope and in accordance with standards, codes, specifications and design instructions;
  • Identify, mitigate, and manage project risks across multiple projects concurrently;
  • Foster excellent collaboration within the overall project team;
  • Support the project team in solving construction issues in time sensitive and urgent situations;
  • Understand and perform efficient and effective document control functions including tracking and issuing RFIs, submittals, contracts, and change orders;
  • Develop, implement, and monitor development and construction schedules;
  • Deliver projects in scope, on time, and on budget.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in Planning, Architecture, or Engineering or certification/registration in a relevant professional discipline;
  • Construction safety certification would be an asset;
  • 5-7 years minimum experience in a Project Management position, preferably in a multi-family construction environment;
  • Advanced computer skills including intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office and Excel;
  • Ability to make decisions and meet critical deadlines, providing advice and direction to construction sites;
  • Ability to adapt and demonstrate resiliency in response to changing work demands;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work well in a team environment;

Corporate Controller

If this sounds like the place where you would like to grow your career, we are currently seeking an experienced Corporate Controller to help us advance the accounting function of our organization, as we continue to grow.  Working collaboratively with team members you will be responsible for managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results. You will plan, direct and lead all aspects of our accounting operational functions, using your technical expertise to help drive improved financial performance, use of data analytics and business intelligence tools. 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and provide leadership to your team and oversee all accounting operations including accounts payable, cash management, and payroll;
  • Coach and mentor staff members helping to grow the expertise of the overall accounting team;
  • Act as a change agent, evaluating the current processes and procedures of the accounting team, developing process efficiency improvements, championing and implementing these improvements amongst the team and organization;
  • Establish, monitor and ensure accounting policies support financial practices and comply with internal controls;
  • Assist with the development and achievement of financial benchmarks, metrics and other KPIs;
  • Develop financial reporting and provide analysis to leadership, in support of management decision making;
  • Ensure all CRA related documentation is submitted correctly and in a timely manner;
  • Prepare and publish all company monthly, quarterly & annual financial statements;
  • Monitor daily cash position and weekly forecasts;
  • Lead annual operating budget preparation, financial forecasts and variance analysis;
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors;
  • Supervise cash collection and revenue recognition for contracts according to policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Business with a CPA designation;
  • Thorough knowledge ASPE and/or IFRS;
  • A minimum of 7 years relevant experience in a senior level role with strong technical accounting and finance knowledge, along with 5 years experience managing teams;
  • Exceptional cost accounting and financial analysis capabilities;
  • Experience coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements;
  • Advanced computer skills including MS Office and Excel; with experience implementing an ERP system;
  • Ability to make decisions and meet critical deadlines, providing guidance at all levels of the company;
  • Ability to adapt and demonstrate resiliency in response to changing work demands;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work well in a team environment;
